JINJA COLLEGE – 13th April 2026

In a time‑honoured tradition that marks the passing of responsibility and the dawn of fresh leadership, Jinja college held its annual Prefects’ Handover and Swearing‑in Ceremony on 13th April 2026. The event, which took place in the Main hall, was attended by the entire student body and the school staff.
The ceremony opened with a solemn procession of the outgoing and incoming prefects, followed by the national anthem and a word of prayer. The Head teacher, Mr Dhikusooka Micheal, commended the outgoing prefects for their dedication, resilience, and service to the school over the past academic year. “True leadership is not about titles,” he said. “It is about the quiet commitment to making your school a better place for everyone.”
Honouring the Outgoing Team
Each outgoing prefect was presented with a certificate of appreciation and a token of gratitude. The Head Prefect for the outgoing team, Honorable Lubogo, delivered a moving farewell speech, reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of the past year. “We have tried to leave our school better than we found it,” she said. “Now it is your turn to build on that foundation.”
The Handover of Instruments of Power
The highlight of the morning was the symbolic handover of the prefects’ tools of authority – most notably the school banner and the prefects’ badge book. In a quiet, deliberate gesture, the outgoing Head Prefect passed the badge book to the incoming Head Prefect signifying the transfer of trust and duty.

The Swearing‑in Oath
The new team then faced the assembly to take their oath of office. With right hands raised, they pledged to uphold the school’s rules, serve their fellow students with fairness and compassion, and be role models both inside and outside the classroom. The oath was administered by the Headteacher.
The incoming Head Prefect, Honorable Owino Marvin Louis, then delivered a short but stirring inaugural speech. “We are not here to command, but to serve,” he said. “We will listen, we will act, and we will lead with integrity.”
A Call to the Student Body
In his closing vote of thanks, the Headteacher urged the entire student community to support the new prefects. “Leadership is a partnership,” he reminded everyone. “When you cooperate with your prefects, you are not obeying them – you are building the school you want to belong to.”
The ceremony ended with the new prefects posing for a group photograph and later sharing tea with the staff.
The school community congratulates the outgoing team for a job well done and warmly welcomes the incoming prefects. We look forward to a year of servant leadership, innovation, and school pride.
